This is saying thank you guys for remembering me on my birthday March 9, your message was received with all the consideration and appreciation you guys deserve.

My day was special, I got messages and ecards from family and friends wishing me a happy day and saying they love me. In the afternoon I talked to my mother and some of my sisters through the phone app in my tablet, and that was the best closing for the day! The number one thing is being thankful for everything in my life, which I do.

For over 25 years, I have witnessed the work and presence of the Italian Coalition Against the Death Penalty, for men facing the ultimate punishment, with humanity, compassion and integrity, love and friendship, and occasionally a financial assistance as well.  

They have provided so many men facing death an opportunity to believe in the principles of ‘agape’ love and, because of that, so many men have been able to keep their sanity and humanity, while surviving in a world of insanity.

It is a great privilege to share with the Italian Coalition Against the Death Penalty, in our common endeavours and actions against the death penalty, since probably more than 20 years now. I am working individually, but the Coalition, lead by passionate and dedicated Arianna Ballotta is always available for advice, assistance, solidarity, support, friendship and love.  

Throughout the years, I have seen the amount of work, the dedication, the time and money they have relentlessly invested and invest in that fight, and it brings a lot of hope, hope that this barbaric practice will come to an end, hope for a better world. Arianna, Michela, and also the very missed Dave Atwood are very inspirational persons to me, dedicated and passionate in their endeavours.

Ho avuto il piacere di conoscere COALIT in occasione di un loro evento estremamente interessante, e successivamente la fortuna di incontrare Arianna e Chiara, sempre impegnate nel sensibilizzare le persone sul tema dei diritti umani.

COALIT è una realtà fondamentale per i detenuti nel braccio della morte, ma riesce ad esserlo anche per tutte le persone che incontra lungo il suo cammino, alle quali apre gli occhi e il cuore. Io stessa ho iniziato una corrispondenza con due detenuti, e posso dire senza dubbio che è un’esperienza che ti tocca nel profondo.

In questo mio percorso sono stata seguita passo dopo passo, sia nella parte pratica sia in quella emotiva. Arianna e Chiara sono sempre disponibili – e con “sempre” intendo davvero sempre – con una sensibilità e un’empatia davvero rare.

Je suis Nadine Broxton, femme de Eugene Broxton, détenu dans le couloir de la mort au Texas depuis 34 ans et innocenté en 2018 par tous les tests adn demandés par le procureur de l’époque.

Je voulais vous parler de mon expérience avec une personne que je connais depuis plus de 20 ans et surtout vous parler de son sérieux et de l’empathie démontrée au long de ces années comme, du reste, tous les membres qui constituent la Coalition Italienne contre la Peine de Mort dont je connais bon nombre d’entres eux grâce à notre collaboration depuis toutes ces années. Arianna Ballotta, sa présidente, est estimée de tous. Je l’ai connue à l’occasion d’un programme à la radio locale.

J’ai bien sûr eu l’honneur de côtoyer et de voir la collaboration également que David Atwood avait avec eux, ce dernier étant le fondateur de la Coalition Texane contre la Peine de Mort, et qui pour Arianna était devenu un père adoptif.

Également je veux vous parler du rapport de confiance et d’estime que la Coalition Italienne a avec Sophia Moreau, que j’ai récemment connu, dans sa veste de professeur au Lone Star College de Houston.

Je tiens à rendre hommage en passant à notre ami Bill Pelke ainsi que récemment Sunny et Peter Pringle. Je tiens féliciter tous nos amis à la radio KPFT pour toutes les infos et les aides apportées pour les familles des détenus, donc merci Linda Mobley Heughan, Dany Allen et toi David : vous êtes supers.

Enfin je vais terminer également avec un grand merci à celle qui a toujours été présente selon moi, la plus grande combattante, aux États Unis, Gloria Rubac.

Je termine en vous remerciant tous pour poursuivre une lutte contre cette horrible primitive peine de mort.

Ho conosciuto la Coalit tanti anni fa: da sempre contraria alla pena capitale, mi stavo affacciando più concretamente su quel mondo atroce, iniziando a entrare in contatto diretto con alcune persone condannate a morte. Se da un lato strinsi un rapporto unico e fraterno con Willie Shannon, legalmente assassinato in Texas l’8 novembre 2006, dall’altro iniziai a scoprire in modo concreto la brutale realtà del braccio della morte. Fu così che venni a conoscenza della Coalizione Italiana Contro la Pena di Morte: non una semplice associazione, ma un gruppo di persone coraggiose, empatiche, umane che divennero punto di riferimento e sostegno, soprattutto nei momenti che precedettero l’esecuzione di Willie, ma non solo. Tramite loro ho scoperto storie di sofferenza, amicizia, ingiustizia e resilienza, racconti di vita veri e concreti, come la storia di Richard W. Jones che la Coalit continua con forza e coraggio a divulgare. 

Posso solo ringraziare la Coalit per il fondamentale e costante lavoro che continua a svolgere, nonostante le mille difficoltà, verso l’abolizione della pena capitale.
